kingdra.net was created to assuage my own complicated feelings about having a single domain that felt a little too personal for me. My primary domain feels like a representation of who I am; still, I like making websites outside of being a direct reflection of myself. Though certainly nothing was stopping me from using my primary domain for those projects anyway, my psychic comfort is more important to me. So only a few months after establishing and buying aroceu.com, I also got kingdra.net.

This site is largely for me, a little peek into my brain and how I like to organize all my internet-related shenanigans. It uses iframes in a 3-column format with main navigation at the top because my longest lasting theme for my very first website was laid out the exact same way. That was in 2008, but though I've changed in a lot of ways, there are still elements of my taste that haven't changed at all. I like to think 2008 me would like this site as much as I do now.

Of course, this site isn't entirely for me - I have tons of outlinks that I want to share with others here. Check them out, or at least one of the randomly generated personal sites down there in the footer. That's my favorite part of this site.

site name

This site is named kingdra.net after my favorite Pokémon. It is used as the domain for this site as it is pretty generically recognized as a Pokémon - therefore, in a way that feels distant and not strictly dependent on me - while also being my favorite Pokémon for a multitude of me-specific reasons, particularly in choosing it to be so. The combination of the univerally recognizable traits of kingdra as a Pokémon and what it means to me is representative also of what this site is to me: constructed for a technical wide audience, but designed and presented in a way that can only uniquely come from my personal preferences and experiences.

I chose .net as its TLD because it sounds nicer than others with kingdra. I generally have a preference for common TLDs, and .net is my favorite.

layout history

Yeah, this site straight up just did not have a main layout (or index content) for 9 years until October 2024.
